City of Helsinki looks into Danish home care and digital solutions
On January 28-29, 2020, representatives from health service administrations in City of Helsinki visited both Copenhagen and Aabenraa to get insight into Danish home care, care centers, virtual care, and digital solutions.
The visit started with an introduction to the Danish healthcare system focusing on elderly care at the Ministry of Health. Here, the delegates learned about the national action plan for elderly medical patients, the role of the patient, and digitization.
Afterwards, the delegation visited the Municipality of Copenhagen to get insight into the Municipality’s elderly care policy and digital solutions implemented in practice.
Rounding off the day, the visitors received a guided tour at Nursing Home Fælledgaarden, which is Denmark’s largest nursing home and consists of 193 modern apartments and an activity center. All homes are equipped with disability-friendly facilities, such as sliding doors and wide openings that enable easy movement in and around the home.
On January 29, the delegates visited Aabenraa Municipality, which is located in the southern part of Jutland. Here, the delegates learned how Aabenraa Municipality uses one unified digital care system, which can create coherence in citizens’ plans and goals across areas, specialties, and geography. This provides security, transparency and overview, which contributes to creating value for the citizens.
After lunch, the Finnish delegates visited SOSU Syd (the School of Social and Health Sciences), which is an institution that provides education within home care. DIGI-Tech is SOSU Syd’s latest version of the healthcare worker education program and aims to participate in solving some of the challenges the healthcare sector is currently facing. DIGI-Tech educates future social and healthcare professionals and gives them competences to participate in securing the digital development in the future.
