Construction of the trailblazing Children’s Hospital Copenhagen has begun

The construction of BørneRiget – Children’s Hospital Copenhagen has officially begun. On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, regional council Chairman of the Capital Region, cut the first turf. BørneRiget is a new hospital for children and a completely new way of thinking hospitals and hospital construction.

BørneRiget – Children’s Hospital Copenhagen will be a highly specialized hospital for children, adolescents, mothers and their families throughout Denmark, where specialists come to the patient rather than the other way around, and where play becomes an integral part of treatment.

The new Children’s Hospital will ensure that both women in labour, sick children, and their families have a safe environment where they can be a family both in the happy moments of life and in the difficult times of illness.

The beginning of the construction marks the start of a new hospital of international distinction, a national trailblazer and at the same time a major step towards securing a human healthcare system in the future.

When BørneRiget – Children’s Hospital Copenhagen opens in 2025, there will be room for 900 patients and their families as well as approximately 1,200 doctors, nurses, midwives and other staff.
