On September 25-27, 2018, a delegation of nursing home directors from the National Federation of Associations of Principals and Services for the Elderly (FNADEPA) from France, visited Denmark to find inspiration in Danish elderly and dementia care.

On September 25, shortly after the delegation arrived in Denmark, the delegates visited the Danish Ministry of Health where they learned about the Danish healthcare system and the Danish national action plan on dementia. They also heard about the transformation and challenges within Danish health an elderly care.

On the following day, the delegates visited Dragør activity center, a social and activity center for elderly citizens in Dragør municipality, where the delegation experienced different ways to engage and activate senior citizens in the local community. Later, the delegates visited the Center of Assistive Technology in Copenhagen, which is a showroom presenting new technologies as well as a place for occupational therapists to advice professionals and citizens on how to use the technological aids. Furthermore, the delegates heard about how the city employs innovative technologies in the care offers for its elderly citizens.

On September 27, the delegates started the day with a visit to SOPU, which is a Copenhagen-based vocational college that offers training programs within health and social care. Here, the delegation received an introduction to the college followed by a presentation about the future demands for healthcare and social workers from a Danish perspective and the Danish elderly care model. Later, the delegates visited the modern and patient-centered nursing home, Skovhuset, that specializes in assisted living technologies, which help to improve the treatment of its residents and the daily work for its staff.

The visit was organized and hosted by Healthcare DENMARK in close collaboration with the Royal Danish Embassy in Paris. For more information about this visit, please contact Deputy Director Anne Smetana.
