Healthcare in Poland is delivered through a publicly funded healthcare system called the National Health Fund (NFZ), which is a state institution that finances healthcare benefits from contributions paid by people insured in the NFZ, which entitles them to free healthcare.
On June 25, Hans Erik Henriksen, CEO of Healthcare DENMARK, introduced the delegates to the Danish healthcare system and initiatives. Next, the delegation met with the Chairman of the Regional Council in Capital Region of Denmark, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, and the Chairman of the Union of transportation workers, Jan Villadsen, who talked about the differences between inpatient and outpatient care and how it affects the patients. Furthermore, they discussed the importance of a public-private partnership cooperation. Later that day, the delegation visited and was presented to OPUS, a special social psychiatric offer for young schizophrenia patients with outpatient units. Before going back to the hotel, the delegation briefly visited the Danish Ministry of Health to get an introduction to the Ministry as well as its initiatives and strategies.
On June 26, the last day of the visit, the delegates went to the venue of the Emergency Medical Services in Ballerup for an introduction to the region’s emergency standby and learn about the 24-hour medical helpline called “1813”. Finally, on the last stop of the visit, the delegation went to Herlev Hospital, where they explored the food strategies at Herlev Hospital. Here, the delegation got the chance to taste the food that optimizes the nutrition intake of patients at nutritional risk.
