On August 28-31, 2018, a high-level delegation from Vietnam visited Copenhagen, Denmark, to hear about Danish telehealth and pharmaceutical policies.

On Tuesday, August 28, the delegates visited the Danish Ministry of Health where they were introduced to the Danish healthcare system with an emphasis on the challenges of noncommunicable diseases(NCDs) and the role of primary healthcare. Next, the delegates heard about the Danish pharmaceutical policies presented by the head of division for medicines policy.

On Wednesday, August 29, the delegates met with CEO of OpenTelehealth, Mr. Henrik Ibsen, who presented the company’s telehealth solution, which is a universal cloud-based remote patient-monitoring platform that enables patients to measure health data at home using an app and a wide range of medical measurement devices. In addition, the delegation also heard about The TeleCare North project, which has proved how COPD patients benefit from telemedicine. Furthermore, the TeleCare North project acts as a catalyst for the national deployment of telehealth for COPD patients by 2019.

On the last stop of the day, the delegates went to see the Danish National Biobank, where they had a general introduction and a guided tour of the biobank.

The following day, on Thursday, August 30, the delegation went to New North Zealand Hospital, which is the largest specialist acute care hospital in the North Zealand Region. The hospital is considered to become a ground-breaking collaboration between members of the healthcare sector and citizens of Hillerød with the aim to become a leading international example. Later, before attending a dinner reception, the delegation visited the Danish Medicines Agency, where they heard about the control and distribution of medicines.

On Friday, August 31, before going home to Vietnam, the delegates visited the headquarters of Novo Nordisk, followed by a visit to the production site, where they had a guided tour.

The visit was organized by the Ministry of Health in close collaboration with the Danish Embassy in Hanoi and Healthcare DENMARK. If you are interested in visiting Denmark and seeing these or other Danish healthcare solutions yourself, please do not hesitate to request a visit. Healthcare DENMARK will tailor a program to your specific preferences and assist with planning local transportation and accommodation.
